In Sikkim, Buddhism is the major religion and as a result there are many Buddhist Sikkim Temples in and around the state, than Hindu temples in Sikkim. One can find as many as 200 Buddhist monasteries in Sikkim as against a few Hindu Sikkim Temples. There approximately 200 monasteries but only a few Hindu temples in Sikkim. Of all the famous temples Sikkim, the Hanuman Tok is the most popular and important Hindu temples in Sikkim. Located at about a height of 7200 feet above the sea level in the capital city Gantok , this beautiful temple offers a panoramic view of the snow covered peaks of the famous Khangchendzonga mount and a wonderful view of Gangtok and its surroundings.
Ganesh Tok is another famous temples Sikkim, located at an altitude of about 6500 feet on the Nathula-Gangtok road. Passing through the picturesque mountains are the equally picturesque Mountain passes that allows one to cross from one border to another. Two of the most prominent Mountain Passes are the Nathu La and Jelep La Pass at an altitude of more than 14500 feet altitude. Both these Mountain Passes lead to the Chumbi Valley in the Tibet.
