‘Gurdwara’ means the home of the saint ‘Guru Nanak’. It is the most revered place of worship for the Sikhs in India, and holds the sacred scripture the ‘Guru Granth Sahib’. The most famous gurudwara in India is the Golden temple at Amritsar in Punab. It is also known as Sri Harmandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib.  It was constructed in the middle of a sarovar or tank and has a revering atmosphere for the devotees. Not only Sikhs, but visitors belonging to all religions visit this stunning gurudwara and get enthralled by its pure spirituality.

Another famous gurudwara in India is the Harmandi Takth Gurudwara at Patna, in Bihar.Actually the Sikhs regard the city of Patna with utmost revere, since they believe that the tenth guru of Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh was born there in the year 1666 and also thatthe most revered Guru Nanak and Guru Tegh Bahadur have visited this city. It is believed that the holy shrine of Harmandir Sahab has some relics of the Guru Govind Sahab that include a ‘pangura’ (a cradle), four iron arrows, the holy weapon, the ‘Hukamnamas’, of Guru Gobind Singh and Guru Tegh Bahadur in the form of scripture, and also a pair of sandals.

Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran is also another famous gurudwara located in the capital city of Patiala of Punjab. It is built in honor of the ninth Guru Sri Tegh Bahadurji, and has a blessed tank, where a dip is considered sanctified by the devotees visiting the gurudwara
